Tastings at Fort de Mutzig
Discover Fort Mutzig, the Feste Kaiser Wilhelm II
A truly unique fortification! Fort Mutzig occupies an entire hillside in the Vosges mountains, ideally located to dominate the Alsace plain and the mouth of the Bruche Valley, and to control the roads and railways between the Vosges and Strasbourg.
The decision to build a fortification at Mutzig was taken in January 1893 by Emperor William II. The first work began in April of the same year. In conjunction with the fortified belt around Strasbourg, the Emperor William II fortified group (in German, "Feste Kaiser Wilhelm II") was designed to block the Rhine plain and the Bruche valley against any French offensive coming from Belfort and/or Épinal, in order to prevent a large-scale operation behind the German army engaged in Belgium.
The Feste was the first German fortified structure built after the invention of melinite, a new explosive with a destructive power far superior to that of the old black powders.
During your visit, you may well bump into our friendly winegrowers, who are waiting to offer you a tasting of Alsace wines!

A winning partnership
On May 26, the Cave du Roi Dagobert presented a check for €30,000 to the Fondation de l'Œuvre Notre-Dame. Christophe Botté , its director, symbolically presented this gesture to Éric Fischer , Director of the Foundation, in the presence of Joël Steffen , Deputy Mayor of Strasbourg, responsible for trade, crafts, tourism and nightlife.
This meeting provided an opportunity to highlight the role and operation of the Foundation: a private law institution with an independent budget, it is placed under the administration of the City of Strasbourg . The Mayor serves as its president, and the members of the Municipal Council sit as the board of directors for decisions relating to the institution. Two great wines from the Couronne d'Or to preserve a masterpiece
The Foundation's mission is to finance and manage the conservation, restoration and maintenance projects of Strasbourg Cathedral . It draws on an exceptional land and building heritage, inherited from several centuries of donations and bequests. This heritage continues to provide part of its resources. It includes around thirty buildings, including the Musée de l'Œuvre Notre-Dame , the Maison Kammerzell , the cathedral presbytery and several residential and rental buildings. In addition, there are land properties spread across 133 municipalities in Alsace: 362 hectares of forest (including the Elmerforst in Balbronn), 577 hectares of fields and meadows, and 11 hectares of orchards and vineyards.
Some of the Foundation's vines are included in the blends of the Cave du Roi Dagobert vintages. A partnership was then formed in 2015, on the occasion of the Millennium of the cathedral's foundations, with the creation of a commemorative Pinot Gris . This initial success gave rise to a second vintage, a Crémant .
For each bottle sold, 1 euro is donated to the Foundation . This symbolic and supportive gesture illustrates the alliance between winemaking tradition and heritage preservation. It resonates particularly well around the Place du Château , with both passing visitors and local residents, all of whom are attached to Strasbourg Cathedral.Other events
